Summer Car Prep: Services Every Auto Shop Should Be Selling in Spring

Spring is the perfect time to prepare customers' cars for summer. Here's what to recommend and how to increase revenue.

Summer puts extra stress on vehicles. Heat, road salt, and long road trips demand a well-maintained car. Smart shops use spring as a sales window, offering preventative services that improve customer satisfaction and shop revenue.

Air Conditioning Service

Spring is the ideal time to service A/C before customers need it in July. Many cars haven't used A/C all winter, and refrigerant levels may have dropped. Offer an A/C performance check (inspect compressor clutch engagement, pressure test, leak detection). If the system is low, recharge costs $150–$300. A full A/C service (flush and recharge) runs $500–$800. Customers will pay premium prices for working A/C in the heat.

Brake Inspection and Fluid Flush

Spring is a natural checkpoint for brake pads, rotors, and brake fluid. Road salt corrodes brake lines; moisture in old fluid reduces stopping power. Recommend a brake fluid flush ($150–$250) along with pad/rotor inspection. If replacement is needed, bundle it with the fluid service. Most customers appreciate learning that brake fluid degrades over time—they often don't know this.

Battery Testing and Replacement

Battery performance drops in extreme heat and cold. Test all batteries and recommend replacement if they're over 3 years old or showing weak cranking. Spring is less urgent than fall, but proactive customers will replace before summer road trips. Use this as a loyalty play: 'Your battery is fine now, but if you're planning a road trip, replacement before summer is smart.'

Tire Rotation, Alignment, and Pressure Check

Winter and spring potholes wreak havoc on alignment. Hot summer tires expand; if pressures are off, handling and fuel economy suffer. Offer rotation and pressure check during A/C service. If alignment looks off, upsell alignment service ($100–$200). Many shops sell more tires in spring than any other season.

Coolant Flush and Engine Oil Change

If a customer hasn't flushed coolant in 2+ years, spring is the right time—before peak summer heat. Summer temperatures stress engines, so clean oil is critical. Bundle a coolant flush ($150–$250) with an oil change. Highlight that old coolant is acidic and damages radiators and water pumps.

Mechanics includes seasonal service reminders that alert you when a customer is due for maintenance. Set up spring reminders for A/C service, brake fluid flushes, and coolant service—then use the system to send automated notifications. Customers appreciate the reminder, and you boost show-up rates for profitable service visits.
